Here is information for foreign students

Application

• To put in an application you need to use 9999999999 instead of Icelandic social security number.
• You need to fill out the school you´ll be attending in Iceland.
• You can not apply if you are not an active student in Iceland. You can´t apply as intern or staff.

Qualifications 

• You need to be able to send us school papers from your Icelandic school.
• To rent from us you need to apply for Icelandic social security number (kennitala) and open an Icelandic bank account. You can apply for the kennitala as soon as you arrive in Iceland, please note you need your passport to do so.
• As soon as you get the Icelandic social security number you need to send it to us, bn@bn.is. Then we make the contract and sign it online .
• To be able to sign your contract online you need to have your Auðkenni app. You get the app when you get your bank account.
• You need to be able to transfer deposit equivalent to three months.

Deposit and rent charges  

• When we inform you about the deposit we send it in euros because most people transfer in euros. The deposit is stored in our account in Icelandi króna.  Of course you can convert that amount to your currency and pay in your currency. All deposits are refunded in Icelandic krona and converted to euros.
• You can ask for your deposit to your bank account in your country, there is no need to keep the Icelandic one open after you move out.
• After you sign your contract you´ll get the rent in your bank and can also see the bills on your pages.

Arrival 

• When you arrive, you need to take note of that we are an office open only on weekdays from 10-14. We can´t handover keys outside of these times.
• Students staying in RU dorms can try to enter outside of office hours with a key in the OPENOW app. It´s not guaranteed it can be sent between countries and it´s possible to call Securitas (533-5533) and they´ll open the room for you for 10.000 ISK.
• Students staying in Austur- and Stakkahlíð need to get their keys at our office.

End of contract and handover of keys

• When three months are left of the contract tenants get an automail about renewal or termination. It´s important to follow the instructions within the time limit.
• When moving out the tenant needs to clean the apartment according to the rules.
• After the tenant get´s the inspection report on email you need to send your bank info to gudrun@bn.is and ask for the deposit back.
